Strategies for Searching and Evaluating www pages

1. Student Strategies for Searching the WWW:
a) Let them know that there are more sites than Google that may be more specifically geared toward what they are looking for.
b) There are shortcuts to type in the search bar that will make results more specific.
c) The ending on the URL will give the student a better idea of the type of site they are viewing.
d) When searching, be specific.

2. Student Strategies for Evaluating Internet resources:
a) Learn who created the website or who is behind it; what is their purpose for making this site? Any bias?
b) Learn whether or not the site is accurate by seeing who wrote it and what their credentials are. Is the info current?
c) Look for citations on webpage or content info.
d) Make sure the content is appropriate for what you are searching (not unrelated or a tangent from your topic).
e) Is the info presented clearly and free of grammatical errors? Is it professional?
